1890's Canadiana cincher belt

 Probably the hands-down silliest part of the outfit, the corselet/cincher belt, which I made look like the Canadian flag! Putting this on makes me think I should rip a petticoat and step into an old-timey wrestling ring....
 Also, I hate the corsets-as-outerwear trend, but it looks like I steampunked the outfit after all with this thing. (This isn't nearly as snug as a proper corset, that said- there's not very many bones in it, and with the edges met in the back my waist is barely pulled in. For hot summer weather, it's much comfier than a regular underwear corset. Especially since my current one isn't breathable fabric.)
 Made from cotton lining and strength layer, duchesse satin for the outer, grommets, leftover lacing for the back, and the leaf is applique-embroidered on with a machine satin stitch. And I trimmed my hems too early, so I had to fudge the finish on the bottom edge by covering it with red and white bias tape...
