Heather Axe

 Here's a photo at last, Heather's folding double axe! This was a tough build, so as a result, Furilas and his luthier father (translation: Builds stringed instruments) did a pretty large part of it for me. I mostly helped hash out how to design it, made and traced out the blade patterns, and the sanding, leather wraps and painting. I'm terrified of saws, so basically, if it involved a saw, I didn't do it. If it didn't, I at least helped.
 The axe is made of spruce with masonite blades, hinges open/shut with a window latch hidden underneath the clunky hexagon in the middle of the axe (also masonite, and glued in place), and was both spraypainted with a hammer-finish paint and hand painted with acrylics and the shaft painted with a dark wood stain. The leather wrap holds on with contact cement, and this axe is an exercise in not pinching my fingers in the shafts when opening/closing it.
